This is another rescue from a "junk" pile. Typically when I run across these, they're heavily circulated. This example's the exception to the rule, even showing some traces of its original luster. Colligo ergo sum

This is actually not Yunnan province since it does not have the Dian or Yun mintmark. This is actually Chekiang province minted in the sexagenary year Bing Wu, which is 1906 Gregorian. Lovely condition! Have a 20 cash from the province!

Quote: This is actually Chekiang province... I concur with your identification, it does appear I had it wrong. In addition, in the course of verifying your correction, I noticed something I hadn't before, that this is the variety for which KUO is misspelled KIIO.

I did miss the mintmark - this should have been very obvious. I thought I did have a variety where KUO is mispelled as KIIO - just haven't catalogued everything I guess... can't remember what province it is. Yunnan mintmark should look like this: I need to rephotograph all these coins one day...

Update regarding this coin -
I imaged the coin in precisely the state in which I received it. Since then, I addressed the green crud you can see in the dentils to the left on the obverse - this came off completely with nothing more needing to be done than a rinse with distilled water. Also, looking closely you can see that the strike was rather deficient in that on both sides there is a substantial arc through which the dentils simply disappear.

One last update regarding this coin -
I just now happened to spot that the two sides are rotated by about 45° from the medal alignment they're supposed to exhibit.

Well done! I'm certain your conservation effort has made this a highly desirable coin. Waiting to see what the outcome look like. That said, I forgot to mention my site which may help you identify what provinces they are from. I found them to be difficult initially. They are near towards the bottom of the page. http://gxseries.com/numis/china/china_province.htmYou should be able to click open most pictures to a slightly bigger photo. Just changed some pictures but otherwise I haven't updated it for about six years - need to retake some photos too... Had a lot in life.
