Hi all

Does anyone know anything of a 1929 Half Penny with a " dot " approximately mid way between the " F " of ONE HALF PENNY and the inner beaded rim on the reverse ?
The " dot " is very clear, and is about the size of the standard dot you see on eg. a 1963 Half Penny.
I can't find any reference to any 1929 Variety (?) Half Penny going through right back to my earliest reference book " Australian Coin Chart " Tenth edition (Feb) 1966.

thanks

The dot could have been caused by a rust pit in the die or impact damage into the die by a tiny bit of very hard debris.

IF this the case, it is a moot point that is an error or a die variety. That may be the reason why you could not find a reference to it in the book.

Hi all

I've come across a misaligned 1945 Y. Half Penny with the King's head being @ 4/10 o'clock. Has anyone else come across any misaligned Half Pennies along their collecting journey ?
I've finally got around to cataloguing my copper pre decimal collection which I started while selling newspapers, etc, on Sunday mornings on the rugged corner of Fitzroy and Grey Sts St.Kilda , Victoria from 1962 to 1964. I got more tips - which were partially kept in Pennies and Half Pennies - than what I got paid for selling between 750 - 800 odd newspapers each and every Sunday ...the 3 Sydney papers, the Herald, the pink Sporting Globe, etc, the King's Cross Whisper, and all the magazines of the day.
I'm aware of many of the Penny varieties - the 6 1952 A. being a favourite - but haven't bothered to research very much about Half Pennies.

Any details of any varieties from those who might specialise in Half Pennies which, apart from the 1923 and a few others, haven't received very much attention over the years, would be a great help.

thanks in advance
