My boss was a coin collector in his youth but now wants to clean out some stuff to make space. I mainly collect classic but I figured if I can pick up some of his stuff for cheap I could make a buck.

Here's a list of what he's brought in thus far. I have it at a retail of around $125

1 1964 Proof Set OGH
3 1965 SMS OGH
3 1970 Proof sets
2 1971 Proof sets
4 1972 Mint sets
3 1973 Proof sets
1 1976 Proof set not silver
1 1986 Proof Set
1 1987 Proof set
3 1987 Mint sets

I'm thinking $75 would be reasonable, what is your opinion. I've looked at completed ebay listings. I'd probably try to sell as a lot.

What does "he" want for them? Selling groups of anything normally does not net the most profit, although it does expedite the moving of product.

he hasn't said....although he did state that he'd rather sell to me at dealer prices than to a dealer. My problem is I don't have a grey sheet to work with.

I agree with you looking on ebay for past sales and going off of that. I feel that's a good representative number to go with. Then knock off 20-30% and there's your profit
Rest in Peace

I see proof sets go at $6 per in on-line auctions(not ebay), mint sets of those Yeats at $4.50 each. The 64 proof and 65 SMSs are the gems of that group, those together are upwards of $20-25 as a low end. If you can get it for $75, you will turn quite a profit on ebay...split it as mentioned. Don't be surprised if your boss is looking at $100+.

Personally, I don't think conducting business with your boss is a good idea.

It depends on the relationship you have with your boss. But yes, tread lightly. If you are not comfortable having them over for dinner or inviting them to your kid's birthday party you might want to give pause.

We're good, initially he was going to have me sell the coins for him for a fee. Then I mentioned buying them outright, keeping the few I may want and moving the others. Honestly I'd have him look at this thread when we talk about dollars. he's bringing in lots and has me price them retail and I give him a number I'm willing to pay. Hoping he brings in his silver stash soon....and Indian cents.

Ask Him what he wants for the group. You may be pleasantly surprised and get them on the cheap, or at least you will know where his head is at. Just a starting point....and I agree with the others...tread lightly with a deal with the boss.

If you're good with doing business with the boss, go ahead, but I'd ask him what he wants for the lot and then either buy or dicker.

Don't buy anything you don't want because you're waiting for the silver and Indian cents. He probably knows that !

If he's like any boss I've ever had, he expects to get his price from an employee.

If you go to almost any show of a smaller or medium size there will be cars full of that stuff. I really doubt most dealers would pay more than $50-60. There are far more of those sets available than there are buyers.
