Hey Chuck (Coopercoins)

Since there is no mint mark to give it away, I can call this a (COUGH) (COUGH) DDO!!

*Another fine example of a just found MD!*

Well actually it not a doubled die or Machine Doubling. It is die wear. Like the infamous 1955 "poor man's doubled die" (which isn't) it is excessive die wear after continued use. This happened a lot on 1953-1955 Cents.

Hmmm.... Coopercoins.... LOL

Definitely not the first time I've seen that and probably not the last. With copper and cooper so close to being the same, I see it a lot. Save it as an educational piece. They sell them on ebay to newbies. But I would never do that.

Technical term is 'abraded die doubling' - As Coop says, it's die wear.

A quick correction to coppercoins post. "Abraded die doubling" is a largely mythical concept with blames the doubling on intentional die abrasion (die polishing). Die Deterioration Doubling ( DDD) is caused by die wear. The 1953 cent is an example of the latter.
Error coin writer and researcher.
