While looking at some cents I found this 1978 D Lincoln Cent with these indentions on the obverse and reverse. The collar of this cent is not raised at all. What caused this?

I'm not sure what caused those dents. It's possible that it just got slammed around or pounded until those dents appeared.

Possible minor clip errors. I'm not sure if it fits the blanking strip but that's one way to confirm.

Rackster, the more I look at this coin the more I believe it is rim clipped.

It looks like a small rim clip from a Clipped Planchet. It's also showing the Blakesley Effect as well. It's a genuine error. Congratulations on the find!

A closer view of the rim area might show if inside of the clip area, there is a slight raised area near the edge.

If it bulges outside of the edge area, then it might be PSD. So give us a closer view of both sides of the two areas in question.

Mr. Coop, the collar all the way around is smooth. I will take closer pictures and post them sometime in the morning.

You mean the edge of the coin, not collar. Why not that term? The collar is part of the striking process that makes that edge round. What does a collar look like?

What does a coin look like when the collar breaks?
