Coinfrog, what do you mean by that? Are they not ideal to use on coins?

The only thing about magnification if you are not used to viewing metal surfaces your mind will automatically try to "interpret" what you see in a context you know. That is the human psyche, all of us. If you are unused to the images they become seen as "ghosts" or what really isn't there. That is why it is IMPERATIVE to know the genuine well before delving into diagnosing an error. Study the plain everyday coin under a normal magnification. Graders use no more than a 10x loupe/magnifier to grade coins. Most True Hub doubled dies can be first noticed under a 15x. Once spotted THEN scope it out!
Do NOT be discouraged, LEARN FIRST. Here is a good place to start. Many resources are available here and links to others.

When you look at one of the 1973 cents, the first thing you notice is that the rim is a lot higher. I don't know if they were trying to fix the MD issues they had for the previous years or not. But it help prevent this happening so often. The odd looking 'E' on LIBERTY is on all of them this year. The large 'FG' on the reverse was a one year thing. (Probably no one thought of looking on the 1972 reverses to see if they appear there, or on the 1974 year to see if they appeared there either? or 1973s with the 1974 reverses? I din't think of this until now. But that was what was special this year.
