You should include the date, mintmark, and the denomination in your titles.

Why Topic Titles are Important

The title of your topic is very important. Let's say you need help attributing an 1896 Morgan Dollar....

  • Horrendous: Help!

  • Bad: Need help with coin

  • Better: Need help with Morgan Dollar

  • Good: Need help with 1896 Morgan Dollar

  • Awesome: Need help with VAM on 1896 Morgan Dollar

This enables the members with expertise pertaining to your question to easily find and answer your question. The title of the topic also becomes the title of the topic's web page, which enables us to attract more collectors to the site. The more members we have, the more we learn.

Looks like you have the large S mint mark variety. Congratulations.

The shape of the small mint mark is more curvy.
The large mint mark is much larger in size when you see them side by side.

The large "S" has a pronounced top serif and the lower inside curl of the "S" is angled sharply NW to SE. The small "S" has a top knob and the lower inside curl of the "S" is oriented more WNW to ESE. There are also reports of a possible "medium S," but I haven't seen any photos of what people are describing as "medium."

The big question is how many different dies had the large "S" mm. IMHO, the large "S" variety is too common for just a single die.

@coop, we just posted the about same thought at the same time. Great pics! What's your take on scarcity or not of the large "S"?

The large S is much less common, but hardly rare. I had a roll once that had 4 examples, and I still have a stack of them.

to the CCF!

I'm not sure on the interest in these if they bring a premium or not. You might check ebay to see if they are selling them? Save a search for them and they will let you know when one is listed, check back and see what it brings later and keep track for lets say 6 months worth of sales and you will have a better idea of what they are going for. You might want to check both to see how they are doing. The large and small mint marks. That would be the real test. You might want to include in your information circulated or uncirculated as well. It would be a project. But in 6 months you would know.
