So I've heard of these before but I've never had one or seen one up-close. I found this one yesterday. I almost missed it! I have found several magician (hollowed-out) Kennedy half coins in the past. Those are much lighter and sound a lot different.

This one is distinctively different. It seems solid, not hollow. When I bounced it off the granite counter top, it looks and sounds just like any other clad. The weight is just about spot on for these clads, 11.2 grams. There's a seam on the reeded edge but it's not coming apart. It must have been machine pressed. From my non-professional/non-technical eyes, it really looks very well made. I can't imagine how; but it must be easy to make with machinery. I'm guessing it's a trick coin, for a coin toss... It must be a "heads I win, tails you lose" kinda thing.

That's a great find! This is one of the coolest Magician's coins I've ever seen! Also, it's very well made. You can probably fetch a couple of dollars for this.

They sell at the shops for a lot more than that. That one maybe found easily during a coin toss. But what you really want is a Tails, tails coin. Why? Most people call heads on a coin toss.
These are harder to detect:

You have to look for the split rim on these coins. Check image closely.

The outside of the rim seems to have a split going around the entire circumference of the coin. There are definitely out seems on the inside of the rim of both sides.

Yes, that's very true!

The term was also used in boot camp. If you were a smoker, you got three smokes per day if you were lucky. One after each meal (chow call). The smokers had to eat much faster then the rest of us, so they could run outside, get in formation and "smoke one". Not me!

Really? Seems like a lot of trouble to do that. Someone must have a lot of time on their hands. I looked on-line to see how that might be done. I couldn't find anything.

I worked in a metal shop before - had to be home shop guy. Hard to saw that thin with a metal bandsaw. Maybe someone working with a water jet than high strength metal epoxy - the seem (and the knowing this don't happen at the mint) tells you just a SBFA coin - well LJ isn't that knowledgeable.

I was thinking the same thing. What the heck kind of blade and on what kind of machinery could/would cut that thing in half like that? More importantly, why?
