I'm a new member with an old puzzle to solve. I cannot for the life of me remember where I found this but iv'e been staring at it on and off for years. After reading a few posts on other topics to help me in other areas, I have decided to join and give others a crack at it!
I just started searching for error coins a week ago and already this sight has been worth it's weight in gold (and silver and copper). The "coin" is just a thin piece of copper with the printing on the obverse and nothing on the reverse. The reverse has a ridge all the way around it almost like it was made to cap something? I look forward to solving this little mystery and thank you in advance for any help

The back of the coin has been worn down using a lathe; perhaps to make a Magician's coin.

There is probably the other half out there somewhere - a different coin machined down to just fit in the ridge so you can turn a cent into a shilling.

Look up magic shops in your area. If there are any, go check them out for similar coins. I have one just like that. I bought it at a magic shop near me. And yes the purpose is another coin should fit inside that one. A magician shows you one side and then flips it over and magically it turns into something else. They are made in a variety of sizes too.

Agreed with the above it is a Magician's coin of sorts. I have seen combinations to make them them double-headed, replace the back with a shilling or Kennedy half, or even fitted with a regular reverse and called a "spy coin" - marketed with the story that Soviet spies would stash microfilm photos in hollowed out pocket change to avoid detection.

Agree on Magician's coin, or at least half of one. You can see the circular tool marks in the hollow.

Oh, and !
