1969-D RD RMM/alleged/phantom mintmark? I can clearly see a faint mintmark halfway between the mintmark and rim but slightly closer to the rim. What do y'all think? This is about the only picture where it is detectable. If I zoom out, it looks like something else entirely.

It looks to me like it's caused by a worn die.

The doubling you are seeing here on the MM and other devices such as on the date are due to DDD. Die Deterioration Doubling. If you look at the MM it is not a FULL and complete MM it is damaged and flat.

I am seeing something about halfway between the mintmark and rim but slightly closer to the rim. Sorry, I probably should have explained it better! I edited the original post to reflect those changes.

From what I can tell, it looks raised.

Odd that there isn't much interest in this!

Thanks for clarifying. A dropped letter would be incuse. I think it's just a case of coincidental molecular structure. Maybe you're looking too close?

If it were a mint mark, it would be raised. It not, so it not another mint mark. The shape isn't exactly like the mint mark punch either. It swoops down, where the mint mark curves upwards in an ark.
