*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***
I'm trying to navigate and learn so that's why I'm here. Feedback is greatly appreciated and helps to educate me. Are the lines on this penny what the various error/variety sites talk about when they refer to die markers?
. Die markers are used to identity specific differences between one die and another. Most often employed with coins minted with a relatively small number of dies.
I think brush marks could be used as a die marker but it wouldn't be the most reliable marker since I think it would wear away and it wouldn't even appear on the earliest die states of a particular variety.
Die scratches are like finger prints. They can be used to identify a certain die. These flatten with time, but remain stronger next to devices. Not really an error as they use this method all the time.
