.....this is a bit frustrating. I sell on ebay too, and have only left one neg in my life on a bait and switch deal, and an arrogant seller to boot. Won an auction last week for a well circulated (thank God it wasnt unc) large cent. USPS tells me it's delivered yesterday, but nothing in the mailbox. Today I go to the PO, and they tell me it is addressed wrong, and went to another house on my block. Fortunately, I was able to track down my poorly hand addressed package at the neighbors house. Just opened it and the coin is loose, no packaging, nothin'. Sliding around like crazy. The mailer was padded, but not smooth bubbles on the inside. It was one of those rough ghetto paper padded mailers. The coin looks ok, but haven't examined it too closely. I'm in rant mode now, and will probably think more clearly soon. Seller doesn't sell much, let alone coins, but really!?

Well, at least you found the coin and it appears OK. In cases like this, which similar hassles, also happen to me, I just don't say anything at all and leave no feedback. I try to let it go if I am not financially burned.
I also try to not deal with the same seller.
I have had one medal arrive recently that was larger than a plastic 2x2 flip so the idiot obviously banged it on the edge of a table until it stretched the soft plastic and squeezed into the holder. Noticable dent on the edge.
It cost me less than the silver it holds but still ...
I haven't contacted him, it just isn't worth it. If I lost a lot of money, I would have immediately opened a case. I have opened 5 or so cases but it was for undelivered items.
Your call ... but don't let it fester. Anger eats up it's own container!

Consider yourself fortunate. Happens all the time on ebay - I once had a used printer shipped to me loose in a box twice too big. Of course it was trashed and I got my money back finally, but what a hassle. That's why I usually won't buy from sellers without a large positive feedback.

It's good you found the coin. I've had some similar experiences with the packaging of the coins...a seller once sent me a Buffalo nickel in a plain envelope with no packaging whatsoever. Not even a 2x2! Just a regular envelope with a coin thrown in it. The coin survived the trip, however.

Rest in Peace

Usually if a seller is listing a whole lot of other items and only a few coins, they know nothing about how to handle a coin. That's a red flag especially for raw higher grade coins, you can guaranty a fingerprint or dings as normal, plus shipping will be, ah, nonstandard!

I send my MS coins out in flips usually in a letter size envelope. Depending on how many coins(1-4 cents) can be sent cheaply and safely/secure for standard first class. Padding is a wrapped piece of paper, flat w/ 1- 2 flips. More coins up to 2 oz are safely sent same manner w/ 21 cent additional postage (per oz) and mark HAND STAMP ONLY!. Never have had a problem, postage is cheap on small cost items.

Appropriate feedback should be left. 'Poorly packaged, wrong address used, and loose coin'. Nothing wrong with that. The vendor was paid for packing, addressing, and posting the item, and he cut corners to either make a few cents of additional profit or he's just too busy to perform his obligations to the buyers of his goods.

On the other end, I sell. And go to a lot of trouble to see that the customer gets a well protected coin, with receipt, mailed within 24 hours for the cost of $0.71.
And less than a third of the buyers leave feedback.
