Hey everyone. I was looking at the reverse of this coin because of some parallel lines I'm not sure about. Then, I flipped it over and found Mr. Lincoln had broken his eyebrow. First, the reverse...ok first the obverse (that is what the thread is titled)

I know it's dirty

Ok, now the reverse

Are those lines gas bubbles? They seem awfully straight to be bubbles.

Thanks.
Rest in Peace

Just plain old damage on the head, seems Abe had a knack for that...

The reverse could be a feeder finger gouge or a linear plating bubble. I tend to think feeder finger because the line "disappears" around the T in UNITED. A plating blister usually would follow the plating layer

EDIT: A lamination is an alloy mix separation within the planchet. It is generally found on copper/bronze cents due to the imbalance of materials or annealing or quite common on the silver War Nickels because of the materials used. It isn't found much on plated or clad coins, is usually PSD/ PMD

Thanks, Crazybo. On the obverse it looks like a piece of the eyebrow broke off and then got stuck to the forehead. You can see where the piece is missing from.

I looks to me like the piece in the red area came off of the area in green. Does that make sense?

I am not sure about the obverse, but I believe the reverse is a linear plating bubble. They can be quite straight in appearance.

From what I know of die gouges from feeder fingers, this is not it. I may be way off on this, but the feeder has an orientation relative to the dies and I believe any feeder finger gouges should be in essentially a perpendicular direction to what you have.
