Another forum member has this 1875 S Twenty Cent coin. We are trying to work out what would be a fair price but in order to do that we need an idea of what grade this coin is.

This coin would have a home in my 7070 Type Set Album.

Thanks for your help.

The line around the rim on the obverse is concerning. If the coin is legitimate, VF-20.

Edit: Line around the rim looks normal. Most likely legitimate. Definitely a VF-20.

In my opinion this is a vf30-35 but a TPG might grade it xf40.

The main diagnostic is whether the raised LIBERTY on the shield is full. Unlike other Seated coinage where the LIBERTY on shield is incuse, in this issue it is raised. The lettering gets rubbed away very easily.

Used to be that there needed to be a full LIBERTY on shield for this coin to be graded XF40, but lately I see many slabbed double dimes that are graded XF without this quality.

The coin is very attractive. It has nice even color and wear. The strike is very sharp and the rims are very evenly uniform. I think it is a premium for the grade 30 or low 35. I would be comfortable paying full vf35 money for this coin.

I'd say VF-25 and attractive. Great die cracks on reverse!
