Posted this elsewhere but not much response. This coins seems fake to me.

The way it is corroded seems odd to me, but I might be wrong here. But looking at the reverse: is it normal that the symbols are faded away on certain points? My other Hemidrachms certainly dont have this.

Also, I see a raised circular surface on the reverse that I am not sure of why it is there. Someone suggested that the die used was to small, hence fake? See the arrows of the third image.

weight: 2.4 grams, size: 13.84 mm.

Thanks for your help!

Not a type I collect, but from what I've seen of them this one just doesn't look right.

@mj, first welcome to CCF. Second, it doesn't sound to me like you are thinking that this piece was cast. From your pics, the surface doesn't look porous, but close-ups could help.

The only thing that I would add is that the blob of metal near the rim at 11o'clock on the obv seems odd to me. A lot can happen to a coin over the course of a couple thousand years so maybe it is just an encrustation, but that concerns me. Sorry that I can't be more helpful.

Thank you for the warm welcome hah! I appreciate it a lot.

I tried to post larger pictures on this forum, and with a link to an external site but was prohibited from doing so:).

You should go with your gut. If you suspect it's wrong it likely is unless proven otherwise. There will always be another coin around the corner.

I'm always more suspicious of round coins too. For some reason many modern forgers just can't resist making a round coin, something that the ancients rarely did.

Thanks everyone! Feel very welcomed :)

Seller is giving me trouble with the return. I posted the pictures he provided in the original listing here:https://www. /r/AncientCoins/comments/83fbei/returning_coins_ebay_trouble/

Hope ebay resolves this...
