Hello, I wanted to ask the community, what was the purpose of printing those $10 notes in 2017 if they knew they were going to release a new one again in 2018. Is the Bank of Canada becoming the new RCM? Nice note though!

I'll get one, too, but I've been foregoing a lot of new issues of notes around the world, lately. Soccer teams, smiling children, and puppies are really not appropriate design elements for a national currency. This belongs on a postage stamp, not a banknote. Minor historical footnotes should not be used as a basis to change your money.

According to a regional Bank of Canada rep, last year's note was strictly commemorative, this one is permanent and the five will be next. They plan on redoing the notes more often to stay ahead of counterfeiters.

I like the new orientation/design elements as its a radical departure from the current "Frontier" polymer series (which I have found so drab).
I am happy to see (& welcome) the BOC release of a new $10 note to start a new series. ANY change will be a nice departure from the current series. Hopefully, the note will look as nice in hand as it does on our computer monitors (I recall thinking the "Frontier" polymers weren't that bad initially and then being quite let down when I saw how dull they looked in hand).
I know many collector friends who just lost interest in collecting after the new polymer arrived and it took me a while (plus a few rare prefixes) to get me back into it. It would be nice if it looks more like the "150" commemorative which I believe (with the dark purple) it will.

Quote: is this the way notes will be from now on? north/south orientation instead of east/west? Yes, I was at the Bank of Canada Museum the other day and they said they would all be changing orientation. I don't get why, through...

I can only speculate, but it a counterfeit operation has been set up and invested in machines that print the old way, it can be a little bit of a pain to a just...
Plus, I think Australia and maybe more already do this... (I put .... because my question mark button doesn't work)

I believe the new orientation is very apt: Viola Desmond challenged the norm in her day (sitting in a "Whites only" section of a movie cinema). She was jailed and fined but stayed defiant of that unjust law. She symbolizes a minority's fight for what's right in world steeped in prejudice. The radical new design is like a nod to her radical, yet determined, new stance to a social inequity. She also is the first woman on a CDN banknote (other than the queen) -so again- a big departure to what's been traditional with our currency.

The vertical notes are stupid idea, for over 150 years there is nothing wrong with our banknotes why change, and for political correctness there are many more deserving great Canadian woman that could be on our currency, how many Canadians has ever heard of Ms. Viola Desmond before the last two years, our currency should only feature monarchs and PM. By the way comment is not to take away from her achievements, but our currency in a way represent our great nation.
