Shouldn't this be considered counterfeit? A Canadian seller listing "pressed" copies of 1967 $ that have been made into hobo style coins.

She is illegal. No grey zone on this one.

Not really counterfeit, since its not trying to copy an actual coin. I am unsure about the laws about defacing coins in Canada

It is trying to copy a '67 dollar. From what I understand you can deface coins and currency as long as it is not to deceive. I could "Spock" a fiver and that is fine. However I could not try to put a zero behind the five and pass it off as a fifty.

I typed "Canada Funny Coin" into ebay and found this in Israel.

It says it is made in China.

they would've been wise to take the denomination off, less heat if it's just trademark (of which the mint doesn't seem to care).

at least they're honest about it not being silver.

This is the exact same situation as the 1898 manitoba gold coins.... they were made in the 60's by a local coin dealer.. all would've been fine except he put 1/2 D and 1D (a denomination) to the coins.. at that point it becomes counterfeit. These coins on ebay are counterfeit and ebay shouldn't allow them to be sold and the RCMP could potentially confiscate them and prosecute the sellers or those making them.
Rest in Peace

One would assume the RCM owns the copyrights to the reverse, and thus are counterfeits

I sent an email regarding this to Mike Marshall... unfortunately, it looks like it is made in China... (what else is new)...

There seems to by quite a few of the cast fake hobo coins on ebay. Here's a "1937-D 3-Legged Buffalo nickel" that could be mistaken for an actual coin:

Yep, I think that having the "dollar" on there makes it counterfeit. I wonder what they look like in hand .. color, luster, surface smoothness?

These are illegal. It is against CANADIAN Law to manufacture a coin that even resembles Canadian currency.
