I studied this coin a long time, before committing to the bidding war... Fought a small battle for this one... hammered down last night on ebay. (seller's pics - but I own the coin now). I'll post better pics when I get it in hand... John100 - that seller had a few errors hammer down last night, all 1980 or 1981. Most had the date obscured by indent strikes (the planchet weight narrows the date). But, I really don't like errors from those dates unless I can see the date. I also won this coin from the same seller: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/1981-Canada...152931390481 I thought I got that second one cheap. It is two errors in one: struck on a split planchet which was partially overlapped by another planchet... bright red and shiny, the way I like them!!

If the Canadian Mint strikes cents anywhere near the rate of the US Mint then it's easy to miss visually. I believe at full production speed the US Mint strikes about 800 cents per minute. Blink and you'd miss something like that.

I didn't bid on those but I picked up the foreign planchet error. I am not sure if is really an Israel planchet or if it just a New Zealand cent. But I need both for 1980 and it is MS66, so I went for it.

I already have that cent struck on the Israel planchet for that date. Mine is PCGS MS-65 Red, so I didn't think it was worth trying to upgrade with a NGC MS-66 Red...
