I am a fairly new member (November last year) and have noticed a trend on this particular forum for beating up the RCM for their NCLT... be it price, subject matter, number of issues... I wanted to ask the community, instead of negativity, what was the last NCLT issued by the RCM that moved you and that you just had to get into your collection. All answers are good... If you like figurines, glow in the dark, glass ornaments or just basic uncoloured proofs but exclude purchases you make to maintain an annual series. I thought it might be illuminating to use this as a straw poll for what NCLT the denizens of the CCF actually enjoy. Personally, I like larger format coins; they can be bold, dramatic and impressive. I really enjoyed the $200 for $200 series as the size allowed for a level of detail that is near impossible on circulating sized coins; the series also didn't focus on wolves, loons and maples though they were represented. I also really enjoyed the 2015 $125 Narwhal... large, bold, simple and not an overused subject. Unfortunately, coins larger than this are beyond my means and the Narwhal was a special occasion purchase. Sad to say, I also really liked to 2017 bullion reissue of the Voyageur both in silver and gold. I say sad because this is an image that is over 80 years old... Thoughts?

I have to get the 5 cent issues, silver proofs and reverse specimens and whatever else they come up with in that denomination. The one coin I really liked other than that is the last one I bought other than the nickels.

The 2007 Joseph Brant / Thayendanegea silver one dollar coin has vivid detail. I really think this coin is stunning.

Canadian Centennial $20 gold, but sold 10 years later; I needed some cash. A handsome coin, but minted in far too many numbers.

Great topic, vonigohcr! I like your positive perspective and joined the forum because of your post! Not a big collector, but I really liked the Golden Maple Leaf coin recently issued by the Mint. Canovision8

The last non-circulating ones I got were the 2014 $20 Goose and the 2013 $1 Arctic expedition. Not that I didn't like any of the newer ones, but I did not feel strongly enough about them to pay the asking price.

I don't purchase many RCM coins besides the SDs issued each year, but from time to time the RCM releases a coin that truly catches and holds my attention. A pair of coins from back in 2015 had such an impact. Their designs are timeless to my eyes. I find the 2015 silver $20 Flanders Fields commemorative to be exceptional in its design and a poignant reminder of the inevitable but heart wrenching losses in war. I also like the way Canada, as a whole, was represented on the 2015 Celebrating Canada $10 silver coin. I find the design innovative and interesting. I bought it within minutes of seeing it listed.

I collect canadian coins, because they tell me a lot about Canada. Different from other mass-minting countries like Palau, Niue etc. most canadian NCLT coins are related to canadian life: History, culture, politics, sports, economy, minorities (I love the unkrainian eggs), tradition, celebrations, but also some very special things like superstition. There are not very much countries telling so much about itself via coins. So I'm always interested in new themes, and my mind is open for new materials - as long as I can see any relation to Canada. E.g., including a small part of a traditional canadian ship was a great idea (my humble opinion, of course). But wood and minerals are also typical for Canada, right? Moreover, the different minting technologies (GITD, high relief, holograms, different finishes etc.) bring some motivs to life.
Nevertheless, from my point of view, some maple leafs and polar bears less would be helpful...

I don't buy as many NCLTs as I once did, but once in a while comes across a theme or a coin that draws my attention. I'm with you regarding the $200 for $200. I was extremely disappointed to see the series cancelled. Those, and the $20 for $20 are mine to keep for a long time. I also purchased the CANADA 150 $10 series because of its significance. And, among all others... the 1967-2017 commemorative set just to get the silver dollar! There is still fun to have in coin collecting, but with moderation.

The last RCM NCLT that I was compelled to get was the 2017 PL cellophane set with the regular design coins. These weren't made for regular circulation, since the commemorative designs were used. It wasn't a necessity for my collection, but relatively cheap fun.

The 2017 Commemorative Pure Silver 7-Coin Proof Set - 1967 Centennial Coins was a must have for me. I have the 1967 set with the gold fifty cent piece so this was a natural purchase to go along with that.

Oh yes, I did get the 2017 regular design coins, since I have all of them going back to 1949.

Quote: 2017 $1 Our Home and Native Land - Special Edition Proof Silver Dollar I bought the enameled version in a CAC auction for less than original issue price and nothing directly from the RCM since last November. Sadly,it looks like I'll be losing my MC silver status having only bought $500 of NCLT since July of 2017. Unable to justify the high cost when a few years later (or as little as 6 months) these gift ware items are being dumped on the market at bargain prices even after taking commission fees into account.
