OK, so we have an innocent auction where a 1908 S Indian Head is won.

Take note of the buyer ID. Here's the photo of the coin won.....

Take note of the hit under the left side of the shield.

Now look at the Indian Head roll this previous buyer puts up for auction with the following description...

Quote:
Here we have an unbelievable sealed unsearched shotgun roll of Indian cents. The ends show an S mint making this a very rare roll. This coin is either a 1909 S or 1908 S. The other end shows a very nice 1909 Indian cent. Could this be an entire roll of S mint coins. The truth is, I don't know. This is truly an unsearched roll unlike some of the other rolls you find on ebay. I have no idea what is in this roll except that they are all Indian cents and there is a 1909 and a S mint. I will leave the value of this roll up to the ebay community.

Look familiar?

Just for the icing on the cake... here's where he bought the 1909 on other end of the roll...

Note the scratch, second feather from the bottom of the headdress.

Tell all your friends about irishkicker23......

While looking at the obverse, I assumed that there might have been a slight difference between the two, but the obverse is the same coin.

All the marks on the left side of the indian are an identical match to the other coin.

Yep the person who bought that roll from him, got ripped of big time.. 365 for the roll.... Might as well use that and buy a key coin of some sort, rather than wasting all of it on a meaningless roll..

"The truth is..."
...you're a shameless crook. Really.

Nice research! Wow, this is the third eBayer who is documented doing this--it must be the scam nouveau. Do you suppose they came up with this idea independently--or there's a "scammers forum" where they trade their nefarious schemes?

As the sucker that "won" this item, I need to thank the members here for providing the evidence necessary to remove scammers from or hobby. I have personally thanked the members that e-mailed me this scam. I have taken action with ebay, Paypal, and am prepared to take it up with my credit card company. I WON'T be paying for this mistake. Thank you all for keeping an eye on these scumbags and protecting a noble and respectable hobby.

Yaaaaaaaaaaah! Way to go guys, there are so many of these, I could find one a day if I really looked. check out the thread below this one I have 2 listed already. The only sad thing is these people will "adapt" (kinda like the borg) and get smarter ie: create seller and buyer id's. The worst part is ebay will do nothing, I have found positive information on a seller who doctors 1909 S VDB's and sells them, sent all the information in and he is still selling today. I have also sent in information on a shill bidder, once again he is still selling today.

You used to be able to warn bidders until ebay started hiding that information, I can still figure out who the buyer is, it just takes time.

My first post here, it's great to see a forum like this.

To date, thank God, I have had great dealings on ebay regarding coin purchases, and that's maybe because of what and how I purchase.

For about a year and a half, I've been getting real leery about the economy in general, the sub-prime mess, a dollar (paper) that I don't trust, banks which I trust even less, and about four or five months ago, I started "shifting" bank savings into purchasing pre-65 rolls of silver currency, as well as rolls of silver American Eagles.

I've mostly been a buyer of rolls of 64 Kennedy halves, Franklin halves, pre-65 Roosevelt dimes, and Mercury dimes. I only bid on rolls that are UNC, and AU/BU, and I only do business with sellers that have 100% positives. I also read thru their feedback, as you can "read between the lines", and get a gut feeling, who you should not be doing business with. I guess I've been lucky and blessed.

I'm buying these coins as currency, rather than nusimatically, though I have prime interest in nusimatics. I just want to buy all my currency before I start trading nusimatics.

I said all that to say this, I do believe that ebay is letting their brand and their business model go to the dogs. Maybe they got too big too fast, and cant handle, or dont want to handle the requirements of maintaining a fair transparent auction site. As many of you might know, the stock market is in bad shape, and I believe that if you want to vote with your wallet, ebay which is trading today at $27.11 a share is an excellent stock to sell short. I'll tell you why, their price to earnings ratio sits at a crazily inflated 86.06, and sooner or later, all of the bad blood will come to fore, and before you know it ebay will be trading at $5 or less a share. Forumite's that's not a trade reccomendation, just my thoughts.

Tell you what though, there is nothing more purty than getting a picture perfect roll of bright shiny Franklin half dollars that you paid a $20 premium over melt value. I know I could have them appraised and peddle them off nusimatically, but I believe silver's going to $50 to $100 an ounce, so I'm holding.

Thanks for reading my first post here, and safe trading to you all.
