An Old And Dated Watch Fob In The Woods

We had a beautiful 50 degree day on Sunday and I made one more trip to the park along Lake Michigan in the afternoon. Whereas I had the park all to myself on my cold morning hunt on Friday, it was teeming with people yesterday.

I hunted wooded areas off the beaten track. I didn't find much this time, just four modern coins. However, I did dig up this old watch fob.

It's from Bucyrus International, a company in Milwaukee that has made huge earth moving equipment for well over a century.

The fob was a gift for those who attended the 17th annual company picnic on August 6, 1921 at Waukesha Beach. This was a beachfront amusement park and picnic area on Lake Pewaukee, about twenty-five miles west of Milwaukee. I used to live near there. The beach is now long gone, but was a popular spot for picnics, swimming and gatherings for decades.

The fob is BIG! It weighs nearly 25 grams and measures 38 43 mm. There are remnants of a silver gild to it, now mostly worn away.
