Just a useless term that was made up after the discovery of the real deal "the big one" 1955 DDO. This was an alternative to the real deal when in fact, it's just Die Deterioration Doubling from an extremely worn die. Sorry, but there's no added value because it's normal and part of the Minting process. Errers and Varietys. Report this Post to the Staff

I absolutely hate that term a lot as it's not correct. It's misleading and is meant to trick new collectors and uneducated buyers to purchase a coin with no added value. If you see this coin for sale with this term being used, then it's a big no no and you should avoid purchasing it. Just normal wear and tear from extremely worn out dies (very common in 1955 as the U.S. Mint would overuse the dies past their life). This is a warning to new collectors who have just started out.
