When I first saw it I thought ms65 gem with spectacular toning. Then I looked a little closer and found a few flaws that keep it from gem. The most prominent is the worm shaped disturbance in the middle of the right obverse field. Then there are a few small scratches above liberty's head. Then there is a stain that starts at the middle of the eagle's neck in the reverse to the C in AMERICA. To offset these flaws, this coin has spectacular color and eye appeal, but in my opinion falls just short of gem. I would say ms64 and nice for the grade. A borderline gem.

Technical grade 58 with very minor rub seen primarily at top of head on obverse.
Eye Appeal = 8/10. Without the scratch or darkening on the reverse through the left wing a 9/10.

Obverse is AU53 sharpness, reverse is AU58, my net grade AU55. Significant rub on all high points on the obverse, with a flat chest and head despite a full strike as evidenced by the stars. Shame about the scratches left of the date. Beautiful toning and reverse die cracks.

You guys would be surprised. Perhaps the luster isn't showing well in the pics.

It's not the luster that worries me, it's the scratches and the rub.

The only reason I say AU-58 is because the highpoints are the only areas that look disrupted, not much but just enough to say it circulated, I dunno though.
Edit: What Paralyse said.

The only think I'm sure about is that the reverse is MS. Weak strike MS. The obverse has questionable areas and the only way to make an accurate assessment is with an inhand inspection. Speculating from these pictures is like throwing darts at a board blindfolded.

with MikeF on the reverse and the questionable areas on the obverse. As to a specific number I would need to see it in hand. It looks like a weak strike on the obverse and that is why it looks as if it is worn. I also do not know what is going on in the field to the right and on the rock below the drapery near the foot. The reverse wing looks like iroon and not a scratch.
