I cannot decide if this 1964-D Cent is an unlisted RPM or a die chip inside the mint mark?

It looks similar to CONECA RPM-004, but I cannot match the die markers. I cannot find any images of other similar RPMs.

Your thoughts and comments, as always, are welcome and appreciated!

Damage, a well placed hit it looks like. It is thinner in the curve, like something was shaved down. I do see a slight directional shift to the NW which could be slight MD on the date.

Thanks CrazyB0 for the insight! If I envision the die with the "castle" inside the "D" being damaged or chipped, that would explain the extra material inside the "D".

Looks more like 1964-D RPM-001 stage 'G'

Well now I'm scratching my head.

It seems there are a couple of different opinions, which, incidentally coincide with the title of this thread.

I'll go study the die markers for RPM-001 Stage G and report back next chance I get.

Thank you all for your opinions! This is what makes this hobby fun. Some attributions are a real challenge!

What was probably the difference of opinion is that some didn't remember that RPMs change shape as the die ages. Sometimes it gets weaker, other times it gets stronger. I guess it depends on what happens to the die (polishings) or the direction of the RPM. The RPMs to the east side of the mint mark get stronger because of die wear flows in that direction. (SE) So know this, I took a look at the sites images of the die stages of the listing. As the die aged the RPM on the left side started to go away because of die polishing removing the fields. But the inside of the mint mark area usually stays the strongest. So I went looking at the Variety Vista site, and it was the first die with the RPM on that area. But the earlier die stages looked a bit different. So, sometimes you just have to read the whole book to see how the story really ends.
