I very much like the designs on early Scotland notes and hear that some were so large as to be known as horse blankets. Does any know which are the largest and which large types are available for those of us on a budget.

The notes are actually smaller in size than some Russian or South American notes, but here are two of the largest notes. The 100 Pound notes from the National Bank are larger, of course, all the bank issues were dependent on denomination for sizing.

Thanks paxbrit, wonderfull notes. Is the RBS as the first one listed in BYB as SC801a. The 20 Pound looks to be in stunning condition, well done. I am contemplating getting the newly published books on Scottish notes, obviously depends on how far I want to get into notes.

The RBS note is the first note listed. Scotland used this design for almost a century, it first appeared in the early 19th-century.

For the record, I don't own either of the notes pictured, the images came from an auction site and used in a slide show.screensaver I've put together.

The 20 Pound note sold for an affordable price, though. Hope springs eternal.

Both of those notes are striking. I like the vignette of Edinburgh Castle on the £20 note.

Here's the back of the note, the castle is on the far ground to the left. It is a nice vignette, tells you why the town grew around the castle.
