Hello All,
I notice that collectors are advised that the best notes to buy - as in resale value in future are "classic" notes. What determines classic, is it age i.e. notes before 1950?, is it particular countries, is it particular printers or printing method, is it known notes that had small print runs, is one collectors classic note another collectors dislike. We all have eras/areas that we like regardless of value but I would be interested in hearing of your views of "Classics".

I personally term it as pre-1970, before the world's economies took off and printings were relatively small. Some say pre-1961, to tie in with the Krause catalog, others say pre-1965, 1950, etc. I think the term is fairly open to personal definitions.

For me the definition of classic notes, is a note we collectors, dealers see everyday. Its not the modern day notes we use for buying bread ect.. but the past notes from 1930's to 2000's that are in circulated states and that have no rarity attached to it.

When I look at someone's collection and I see the notes I just described, I say in my head, "the classic collection notes."

If your meaning of classic is the best of the best, I don't think age is to be considered, but more condition. Types of notes will differ in your meaning from collector to collector, because people are attracted to different things, like special serial numbers, art designs, ect.. but the constant CLASSIC description is always condition.
