I've recently starting taking an interest in die pairings for the 1859 large cent series and I am still having a bit of difficulty.

The coin in particular is a 45a3 (45a + j3) or at least that's what I though. The die cracks are near identical to the j3 reverse die, but the 5 is repunched die definitely, almost identically to the j7c reverse, but none of the die cracks of said j7c.

Does anyone know what this could be, if its a new die discovery or something else.

Thanks in advance.

A good way to identify Reverse J3 is the repair to loop 2. No other reverse die has a loop 2 repair like it.

Looking forward to the photos. You never know when something new might turn up!

I agree with Hounddog. The loop 2 repair looks like a match also.
