Sorry, but that's not an error. It's roller damage- it can often be found on coins in the ends of machine-wrapped rolls.

I'm not sure you can see it in the picture the circle is pressed down an the enter circle is higher than the inside circle.. how would a rolling machine cause this with out cutting into the coin... sorry not trying offended any one I just don't know trying to learn something new so if this seems Repetitive or ignorant I'm sorry...thank you for trying to help me understand ...

Hi George & welcome to the CCF Family,
Let me see if I'm understanding what you're saying here. Is that circular mark raised above the level of the rest of the coin's field (field meaning the flat parts)? or is the circle incuse, meaning it digs into the field?
Take a toothpick or something soft and pointed - a toothpick is really the best for this - and run it over the circle. [don't use a pin or anything that can scratch it] This will give you a pretty good idea which way it goes. Also, if you have a magnifying glass, use that while you're doing the toothpick test. Then report back.

I fell for this too. It's a common PM damage.
Sorry.

Quote: I fell for this too I'm just making sure we check on all the possibilities. Our new friend has a valid question and it wouldn't do to dismiss it out of hand. Many of the monument quarter dollars have the concentric, raised area on the reverse where the name, date, etc. are located and I've been waiting for years to have a circular die crack to happen when all the conditions are just right. While I agree with my learned colleagues that this is most likely the result of those pesky feeder/roller fingers, I would love to be wrong!
