I normally CRH in Indiana, but we are on vacation in Kissimmee FL. I went to the local Wells Fargo and got a box of Nickels for my son. We got the best box we have ever gotten.

8 Buffalo's
4 V nickels
3 War Nickels

This got me thinking, I am in FL and get 1 box of Nickels and it happens to be my best box ever. Obviously we got lucky, but I wonder if the odds are better in Florida.

This seem like a collection dump for sure. This got me thinking of the geographical and cultural differences between Orlando and the Midwest.
In Indiana it is mostly white people of all ages. In the Orlando area there are 2 large types of people that we do not have much in Indiana:
1. A large population of older retirees.
2. A large population of Hispanic (many Cubans and Mexicans)

My guess is there are times when old retirees pass away and their family likely lives out of state and has to come into FL and manage all their belongings. This may include coming into FL for a few days and managing of all of their belongings. I would imagine often times the family just takes all the change to a bank to turn it in without looking through it, which may include collectable coins.

As for the Hispanic population, my guess is many of them are first or second generation immigrants, and may not know a rare coin if they saw one.

Anyways my guess is many places like Florida/Orlando have better "CRHing Odds" then the Midwest. Anyone else have any thoughts or comments on this theory?

Anyways here are the pics. I was so happy my son was able to find these things. The second roll he opened had a V nickels and I immediately thought the box would be a good one!

God Bless you all and thanks for looking!

I'm super-excited about your find while on vacation, but it seems to me that drawing broad conclusions from such a small sample set is problematic. A better way to test your hypothesis that CRHing in FL is better than CRHing in IN would be to compare the average results from many thousands of rolls by multiple collectors in both states.

I have seen individual collectors post their results here, but I'm not sure that CCF has ever had a thread where such a widespread comparison was made.

Wow... am only seeing this now. Obviously too late to go back and get more. If it had been me, I would've immediately headed back to that bank and gotten another box. I wonder how many other pre-1960s were in it?
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!
