Hi everyone!
I need a bit of help figuring out what to do with the large coin collection my dad left. He was going to deal with everything when he got his cancer diagnosis but ended up passing away a month later and never had time.

I've gone through all of it and taken pictures of most and cataloged all the rest of it but now I'm unsure of how to proceed with selling it.

Anyone have some tips, tricks and recommendations for me? There are over 200 "items" or sets that are proof, specimen or uncirculated. Plus a bunch of misc. Collected, sorted and classified coins.

I moved your post to the Canadian forum, where there are lots of people here who know dealers and coin auctioneers, and have experience selling collections. Hopefully, they will be able to help you get the best return on your dad's collection.

It would help to post a few sample pictures or even better just a list of the 200 items (since you made it already).

200 items is actually a rather small collection, believe it or not.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. Sounds like he was a RCM customer, so prepared to be disappointed. Here's hoping you find a PCGS Blue box or two, crammed full of high end certified coins.

My condolences to you and your family.

Online price research of sold items on ebay. PCGS or NGC price guides for graded coins by either grading company.

Find out what IS and what is NOT key/semi key/rare and/or expensive coins.

One of the best options - find and attend a couple of the local coin club meetings, if there is one in your area.

The more research you do, the easier it will be to know a good/great offer when it is presented to you.

Do NOT take the first or second offer. Do NOT let ANY coin dealer talk you into only buying a couple pieces out of the lot (called cherry picking).

.....and KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS here.

Oh wow, I thought what he has was a lot, I cant imagibe going through an even bigger collection! I've got the list in an excel but I dont think I can upload it here so I ill try and copy paste it.
He definitely was an RCM collector and I'm not really expecting to even get what he paid back for it, but I would still like to at least give it a bit of effort.
What is this PCGS blue box?

My condolences to you.

Education is the key...learn what you can about what you have. The fine folks around here won't steer you wrong. The Carlton Guide is a good start to figure out what you have for mintages and especially grading.

I say this because most dealers are good, yet you might find an unscrupulous one who will cherry pick and then low-ball you. This is evidenced by an experience I had. Years ago I bought a 1916 Canadian dime from a dealer that under-graded (I bought it as an MS-60 with wonderful eye appeal, my conclusion was this coin is an MS-63). About half a dozen years later I brought it in to another dealer just to show him as I had no intentions of selling; his opinion matched mine on grading as he also thought MS-63.

Fast forward another 5 years and I was looking at selling my collection, I brought this same dime in for an evaluation and offer to the same dealer. Guess what? All of a sudden the grade dropped on this coin to AU-50! Needless to say I didn't sell it to him and submitted it to PCGS a few months later...and it came back in a PCGS holder at MS-63. I still have this coin to this day.

You've got photos, so you're halfway there to selling them yourself on ebay. Go ahead and attend a couple more shows, browse ebay, and see what your material can sell for. You're in no hurry. DO NOT take it to a dealer, I hate to say this, but estates are how they make a living. They will either undergrade your material or just pay less than they should, or both. Make the money, yourself.

Then just start listing a few items each week as you can. Charge $3 postage for Canada, $6 to the US. Take a break when you feel like it. Open a different bank account for the PayPal account, and make it easy to track returns.

Check your 1964 date silver dollar for dot/no dot. Check the 1967 set for die rotation on the dollar, quarter and nickel. And check the dime in the 2010 Lynx set for the mule finish.
