Is This A 2003 D Maine Quarter Misprint?

At first when I saw this coin in my pocket change I thought someone took a pair of pliers to it, but when I looked closed it seems that it was printed this way. I say this because it seems like it was coated over the way it is, there is no copper color showing through on the edges.

I don't think the coin is in very good condition overall, but Let me know if I am just crazy about it being a misprint or what is going on here. Thanks!

@Hewwos, first welcome to CCF. Second, yes your coin was damaged after it left the mint. It can be safely spent.

I don't know what did this but it all happened after minting.
