Hello All I'm Abombs315, long time listener and first time caller. I am new to this hobby and have a question that I can't find the answer to anywhere and I am really hoping that someone can help me. The image I uploaded is the reverse. Of my subject Quarter and of you look between the eagles legs there is a profile of George Washington that appears to be purposely put there. It seems to me to be pretty rare and just wondering if anyone else that may have this Quarter has seen the same or is it an unknown addition by the artist and only on one die or whatever? Please help and thank you for having me here.

I can see the outline of what appears to be the portrait of Washington, but there is nothing on any die in use by the mint that resembles what is on your coin. In my opinion, I think the coin has had some damage done to it and it just happens to look like the outline of the portrait. I'll ask the mods to move this thread to the errors section so you can get more opinions.

Yes it is worn pretty well but I got excited when I noticed that. I continue to look at images for the reverse and saw a faint one or two. Thank you again

That area on the die is the outside part of the die. So something made contact with the field area. altering that area. It was not planned, it is your brain figuring out what it is. I found something similar on a different coin: Something altered my coin on that area and it looks like an angry face. But at no other angle can light make this happen on my coin, except at 12:00 direction. It goes away at any other angle. Just something on my coin casting shadows.

That's fascinating for sure. I understand exactly what you mean though.just weird. I just can't keep from thinking that it can't be anything but a portrait. It doesn't really follow the contour of the wing or isn't smooth like the body. I really do appreciate you taking the time to help a novice out in this.

First welcome to CCF. Second, with regard to your comment: Quote: I just can't keep from thinking that it can't be anything but a portrait. It could be Pareidolia.

I've seen lots of crazy hits and weird wear patterns but that's pretty cool, only a quarter to keep so I would!

Last week someone posted a cent they wanted help with. When I looked at the coin this caught my eye. Looks like a rose to me. What do you think? I do not see what you are seeing on your quarter nor what coop sees on his cent. Sorry almost forgot.

Quote: People alter coins on purpose also: Two questions coop. 1: do you own any of these? 2: any of your art work shown? I think many of these are works of art.

Not mine. I wouldn't damage a coin. I'm not that talented. But appreciate when a job is well done.
