All 1942 S nickels are 35% silver. So maybe you have a nice silver wartime nickel -- or it got cleaned. I don't see any polishing scratches but I don't think I can tell if a coin was dipped in a harsh solvent. I'm hoping it's glossy because of the silver content.

Buff b#601;f/ verb past tense: buffed; past participle: buffed

Ok so we all agree that @Paola1's coin has been polished. Any thoughts on what he/she could do to bring it back a little to a more acceptable color? I understand that at magnification, the polishing marks will still be there.
