Evening y'all. I have a sealed mint roll showing Heads on on side and a blank on the other. I can't tell if the blank has an edge at all without damaging the seal, curious what the value on something like this may be and would you open it?

to CCF. I will wait for the pros to chime in,looks interesting.
They retail at 81 cents each in MS63. If it was me,I would look through them. The end coin has damage from the Coin Wrapping Machine but should still have a small premium if it is a real error.

To CCF! That's one heck of a find! I would just open the roll and see if there are more Planchets in the roll.

It looks very nice! It's very shiny. It looks great. Make sure to put that into a 2x2 coin flip for protection. Did you find anything else in the roll?

Wanted to add one more thing. Make sure to write on the coin flip that it came out of a 2004 P Kennedy half roll

Looks like a type 1 blank planchet. You may want to print off the photo of the roll you posted and keep it with the coin.

Looks like a planchet to me. The best way to tell? If it is a blank, one side will be slightly rounded, the other side will not be. Why? When the blank is cut, thr top side will show the slightly rounded edge, the opposite side will be sharp. When they are run through the upset process, both edges will be rounded, with a slightly rolled prototype rim. Then they are planchette.

So if one edge is slightly sharp, then it's a blank. If not, then it is a planchet.

That is a really neat find!
I wonder how many times sealed rolls have coins like this inside.

More times than having them on the outside edge. But I would have opened it anyway. There could have been more inside the roll. Great price on these. Harder to find for sale to complete you planchet collection.
