I am looking for feedback on the grade/condition of this 1806 draped bust half dollar. Thanks! Edited by matt2442 04/23/2018 6:09 pm

Looks odd. The date looks off and the Eagles neck looks off as well. The reverse stars are different sizes. Are you sure it's authentic?

Thanks for your replies. I see what you mean about the neck, but I think that might be due to the photo. It made it look like there was space between the body and the banner. Here are some other photos in case it is helpful. Thanks again.

Much better...thanks. I can attribute it tomorrow for you. The second set of pics make it look much better.

the larger pictures show that the surfaces on liberty's head, neck and hair have significant pitting which would further indicate a details corroded coin.
it is a great early date silver half dollar, but it has some issues that limit its value. overall it still has eye appeal.

Nice Coin! A lot of history there, but thankfully not to much wear.

Vf-20 and I think straight and I like it. That pin scratch is no where near being large enough to detail it. Only you can tell if it has ED. We cannot from those pictures. So here's what you do: Hold it flat under a lamp light. Then slowly rotate it so the light reflects off of it at an angle. If you see depressions where the toning is and it looks like something has eaten into the surface, then it has environmental damage. If the toned areas appear to be raised, then it's just gunk buildup and is NOT environmental damage.
Make sense?

VF-20, bordering on VF-25 sharpness. Tough call on the surfaces, but I think it makes a straight grade.

I don't think it has ED, but I would check anyway like MikeF recommended.
With the new pics, I still think VF-20.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I will take a close look under light as MikeF recommended.
Any suggestions for how best to preserve it? I'm interested in safekeeping, rather than selling. It is worth sending to a grading agency? Thanks for the help.
