I have an opportunity to purchase this coin. It is in an NNC slab. Which basically means it is ungraded. I wanted your opinions. What grade would you give it, and do you think it has been cleaned, etc? Thank you all for your input and help.

EF-45 cleaned IMO. Can't say on the authenticity. What did NNC grade her? Just for curiosity sake.

The coin looks genuine VAM 2. If you purchase, check the die markers R &T in liberty. VF Details cleaned.

Thank you all for your input, I had a feeling it was cleaned. Here is the NNC slab and grade. A follow up question, who works here and how do they make money with such inaccurate grading?

It looks harshly cleaned but I wouldn't be surprised if it also was plugged, and whizzed.
With this jerk, it really is like a box of chocolates. You never know what the #@$% you're going to get.

Quote: who works here and how do they make money with such inaccurate grading? An notorious ebay selling named centsles(sp?). He makes his money off naïve collectors who aren't smart enough to ask for opinions on CCF.

Centsles is NNC aka Bob Johnson. Do an internet search and find out what type of person he is. His basement slabbed coins are basically garbage...

Presuming it's genuine, this valuable key date is in an NNC holder for a good reason. It would be worth getting it into a PCGS holder with a "VF details, cleaned" description which would reassure serious buyers. The fact that it instead remains NNC-slabbed suggests it really has more problems than just the cleaning.

I wouldn't touch an 1893-s in anything but PCGS or NGC plastic. Far too many counterfeits out there, and some pretty good ones at that. JMHO.

MikeF, Do you know what the outcome of the lawsuit? Did the judge throw it out? I was a little surprised that they actually named 7 ebay buyers with their name, user ID's and how much they have spent.

Run away from this coin. After looking at VAM World for the die varieties (only a couple dies were used to mint the 100,000 specimens - 1 obverse and two reverse dies), I don't like the mintmark on the coin pictured here.
