Hey Guys, I've seen this effect before but can't recall what it's called or how it's described. Are some of the letters doubled or is it just the way they are?

The lettering is incuse with MD. The mark by his nose is a thin layer of grease,so a struck through.

That effect you see is called Struck Through Grease. I don't see doubling.

I think there's another thread where it was determined that these quarters are more likely than not to have incuse MD.

Looks like there was some grit in the grease leaving a rough struck through.
