Closer pictures of the area in question would help. It does look like the coin has been corroded, so that may be contributing to the appearance.

What I'm seeing is a possible small D.Chip on his nostril, also maybe a fair sized lam on the cheek.

Any chance of another larger picture oriented correctly?

The image is a little bit pixelated when I blow it up, but I'm not seeing anything underneath Roosevelt's nose with your current pic.

I've oriented it and enlarged it a tiny bit so I can point out what I see.

Small D,Chip on Nostril:
Probably Strike through grease on cheek.

Nancy, yes perhaps, although I think that Roosevelt's nostril is always a bit rounded and his cheek a little hollow. See below similarly chopped image from Numista for comparison:

With the current pic, I can't quite tell if these normal features have been exaggerated on the OP's coin, but perhaps.

what's the edge look like? I'm just curious...I'm not an expert but that reminds me of paint used on certain metals to prevent rust..cant recall whats its called at the moment..or a powder coat. sand/bead blasted?

maybe its a different metal...weigh it?
