I deliberately bought this with hopes that I can improve this token or medal to be a presentable example of a rather elusive item. These are before images. My plan is to soak in acetone, then use Verdi Care and hopefully get it to look much better. No scrubbing, just careful conservation. This may take a couple weeks but I wanted to post BEFORE images so later I can show how I did. I will update, I promise. wish me "GOOD LUCK!" 1928 Tom Sawyer Washwear Good Luck token.

Looks like a good candidate for conservation. Good Luck.

So far, no miracles but it is about 60% better. Not done yet. I will update.

I know it's against the laws of coin collecting but I think I am going to polish this medal. This is the best I can do without taking much more of the patina off anyway. I am sure I can make this bright and shiny all around but to me as it came out is not good enough, this will not do. What do you guys think? I know there is that yellow paste product that darkens cleaned copper coins. Somewhere in the basement I have a full bottle or tube of that stuff from many years ago. This is "cleaned" now anyway.

Personally I think it looks spectacular compared to what you started with. Nice job.

Wise decision, even if it was coerced.

I went right back out to the sink, put it in one of those plastine coin baggies and put a combination of Verdi Care, Olive Oil and there it sits. I should just hide it for another week. When I allow the Verdi Care to dry, it looks better than my recent images but has a shiny lacquered look to it. There is no hint of green that way, but the black splotches are darker. That pair of images above are showing it rinsed off. This thread will be dormant for another week on my part.
