I was looking over what I call my "pretty" cents and came across this 1960 D LMC small date cent. This cent has the same hallmarks as a WDDO-004 except for four. It does not have a die chip at the bottom of the "U" on UNITED on the reverse, it does not have a small die chip on E on ONE and it does not have the light die scratch that runs North from the six on the date as a matter of fact the die scratches run horizontal and does not have a light spread on L in Liberty as the pic will show. What is does have is the six on the date is identical and it does have the die chip at the left side of the base at the Memorial. Would you consider this a WDDO-004 or would you consider this a new variety or is this another run of the mill cent? Two of the photos were borrowed from MR. Wexler's site. Insight please.

Jim, do you check the other sites besides doubled die.com? Why I ask is this seems to be a conundrum for you about markers. Markers are always referring to a specific die state. John Wexlers sometimes doesn't state which, EDS, MDS, LDS, VLDS(coppercoins.com) , or as varietyvista.com does in stages A through F (at times). So don't use markers as a final definitive of your coin. Use other "must be" features first. Mint mark location has to match for DDOs as well as RPMs. Shapes, indicators of doubling should be the same, most WILL NOT disappear with wear that much.I mean size, shape, which devices/effected all must match.
Die "markers" may change even when considering the die PAIRS used. Sometimes a reverse die gets changed, that old reversese marker just went bye-bye, see? Or as in here, did the obverse die get replaced but the reverse still used?

BTW, PM me anytime, be happy to help with these tricky ones(your email feature is turned off in profile)

Hallmarks don't count unless the doubling is there. Variety first, then markers to ID die state.

Yes sir. I am learning as I go Crazyb0. I checked Coppercoins. Wexler's and Variety Vista. I thank you more than you know for helping me. I am sorry for not knowing more and this is a great site with great people to learn from. Maybe I need to quit posting questions and spend more time observing until I know more. I just went back and turned on the email.

Jim try this: When you see a new post, just read the original posters comments about what he has or thinks it is. Then before scrolling down, start a file on a word page as to what you think it is. Then read other comments to see if you were correct, or have something else new to learn from the answers. That is the best way to learn. On my posts I try to show to others what I see on their coin. I find that better than a yes or no answer. That way they can learn why I posted my comment. So they can see what I see on their coin.

Yes sir. I learned one more thing today. My cent has nothing more than a die chip at the left base of the memorial.

And none on United. Now why is that important? because if the die chip on one is larger it would be a later die state. But with it larger and no die chip on United, they are not from the same die. Something else to use in your coin attributing knowledge.
