*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***I bought this 1909 S VDB from a friend for $ 10.00. This forged coin fools a lot of people. *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ***

Try using the forums Image optimizer. Put your picture in the optimizer, resize it and then put the resized picture back into your pictures folder. Now you can insert it into your replys

Trying to get the optimizer to work right. In the meantime What is the difference between forged and cast?

Off of the internet:
The definition of forging according to dictionary.com is "to form by heating and hammering; beat into shape". When a component is forged, a piece of metal is being moved or "beat into shape" while still in its solid form.
In contrast, casting is defined as "to receive form in a mold". In layman's terms, molten or liquid metal is poured into a mold (either closed or open) and cooled to a solid state where it retains its shape.

Thank you. Makes sense a sword is forged and some things are cast or poured into a mold.

A very nice "Black Book" (a collection of fake coins) possibility. At least no one was fooled.

@nemlas, can you see a parting line along the edge? It is a little hard to tell from your pic.

Spence I can't. The rim is smooth. This coin might not fool those here but it is better looking in real life. Many when I tell them that it is not real say the VDB is off when it is actually dead on axis. I will get a reverse up soon.

This is probably one of the worst fakes of this coin that I've ever seen.

Forged can also simply mean fake or faked as in "His signature was forged."
So the statement "This is a forged coin." can mean that the coin is fake without any implication as to the method of how it was made.
