That looks more like to me that the metal was squeezed on ones side, leaving an indented area and the other side pressing it outwards? PDS If that is the case. Pressed hard enough to make an indent, but not enough to split the plating.

Nothing is indented. As stated everything is raised on both sides.

I really like that pyramid-shaped region by the date--neat find!

Very nice find! I respectfully disagree with Coop. This isn't Post Strike Damage. Clearly, something hard got stuck in the die and caused some die dents. The debris ended up damaging both of the dies.

Coppergold, don't worry. He already had Mike Diamond diagnose his coin. Definitely a very interesting piece. :-)

This coin was correctly diagnosed at the beginning of this thread. Complementary die dents on both faces. A very nice find.

Thanks Mike! I am still mostly a varieties guy but slowly getting the hang of the errors. Your time to take a look at this one is much appreciated.

This is the original coin where I learned about this kind of error. May as well get all these in one thread.

Bats hard to tell, is that 83 a DDR?

NewMember, no, it's not a DDR. It's an error coin with severe Die Dents that damaged the dies. You can see the die cracked on impact from striking something hard.

So basically what is being said, it that a die chipped off small areas on the die during a strike, that leaves raised areas on the coins on one side where it chipped off, from the chipped off side, it stuck to the other die. So you see a slight incuse area where the metal transferred to the other die?

Not quite. There is nothing at all incuse involved here. Something, let's say a BB, gets struck between two dies leaving both dies dented. All further coins come out with complimentary, raised, die dents on both sides.
