Hi all I have had this for a while and was wondering about the die break(s) @ 3 o'clock on the reverse. Do you think that it/they could be the precursor(s) of the larger Cuds that are found in the same location? On a side note, which pic is better? A...above photo without editing...or B...above photo brightened? (The following photos are all unedited.) Thanks for taking the time to look.

THERE IT IS! My CRUD! See I told all you doubters, THEY do exist! Cracks, Cuds AND CRUDS! It...is....aaa-liiivvveeee! Unedited 100%, too washed out, actually need more contrast less midtones. And you get too much shadow with one light source, use a diffuser or at least 3-point to overlap the shadows. But you color is real good, wouldn't mess with that, I did a bit of color cast correction but couldn't get the red out(lower left residual shadow.) Try a darker gray background, or paper.

I know they are very faint, but all those cruds had to start somehow.

You made me look to make sure I had spelled it ( Cud) correctly.

Not a Cud. Just a die chip. A Cud involves the outer rim breaking away.

So, I really was hoping for a real answer. Quote:Do you think that it/they could be the precursor(s) of the large Cuds that are found in the same location? Thanks

Real answer: Yes, they could be precursors to a larger Cud. The only way to know for certain is if you could match up die markers from a known Cud with markers on your coin, if they exist. It's possible this die continued to break and cause a Cud, or it may have stayed like this until the die was retired.

That's a Die Crack and a Die Chip, not a Cud. Although, it could have turned into a Cud in later die states.
Errers and Varietys.
