Hi,

Here is a stater of archaic style, probably from Caria. I missed it in an auction, unfortunately. But it seems worth being shown because it is really striking and it seems to be unpublished.

Definitely interesting - thanks for sharing. It does look like a moray. I wonder, however, if it might have been intended to depict one of the right facing lions from Caria staters, sort of like below? Certainly the surface has been roughed up.

Of course, it's difficult to be sure. It looks really like a moray. No apparent paw. I wonder what is the feeling of the others.

I have only dipped my toe into ancient Greek numismatics, but I have to agree with @bobL on this one. Along the bottom rim is a somewhat raised linear section that goes from the torso out to just beyond the mouth. I wonder if this is a paw.
