Wow! Amazing to see this rare coin with Sigismund as king of Sweden after a handful as king of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
As reminder of the history, Sigismund was the son of John III of Sweden and Catherine Jagiello, daughter of Sigismund I of Poland. Due to this Polish-Lithuanian dynastic connection, Sigismund was elected king of Poland-Lithuania in 1587, but when John III died in 1592, Sigismund also became king of Sweden. Until he was deposed by his father's cousin, Charles IX in 1599.

I'll start 1597 with a Lithuanian trojak of Sigismund III:   AT bottom of reverse, the ox's head is the symbol of Vilnius mintmaster Simon Lidman, and the anchor-like symbol is that of the Lithuanian treasurer, Dimitri Chalecki. Edited by tdziemia

great coins posted ! here two more of my jetons, anno 1597 the first is a commercial issue, produced by the directors of the channel Brussels/Scheldt river the legend of the obverse is in Flemish: LEGPENNINCK DER STADT V BRVESSEL (jeton of the city of Brussels) the obverse has the CONCORDIA RES PARVAE CRESCVNT (unity makes strength) which in the 17th century would become one of the most preferred legends on coins of the United Provinces, being present on all ducatons, ducats, etc etc . but we'll see it three weeks from now on the "Union Daalder 1579"  the second jeton is in the series of military propaganda, celebrating Maurits of Nassau: this one was made after the battle of Turnhout the obverse shows a 'trofee of arms' and a rudimentary map of the region showing the big rivers and small towns  Edited by 1c5d7n5m

I was wondering when the parade of Hungary denars would start!
Trojak is from the Olkusz mint (I think I may have given the Iger numbber over on the Poland thread?). Initials IF at bottom are for Johann Firlej, Polish crown treasurer. We will see these initials on trojaks from several other crown mints over the next week.

1596 triple alliance between the United Provinces, France and England in the war against Spain the image of the rampant lion with a bundle of arrows (United Provinces) is propaganda for power; again we see the help of a divine hand   1596 troubles in Utrecht after heavy taxes on bread and .... beer (horrible) the image of the turtle (the population) immune to the stings of bees (taxes and other issues of difficult times) is quite appealing  Edited by 1c5d7n5m
