More imaginative imagery on those jetons! I think it is still Monday night out in the western Pacific, so I will post another 1597 coin I forgot, especially since we are low on Italy. Duchy of Ferrara, giorgino of Alphonso II   This was the last year of the reign of the Este Dukes of Ferrara. Alphonso died without heir, and the pope muscled in and took control of the Este lands in Emilia, marking the beginning of this part of Italy as a Papal State. @giljan, that first trojak is lovely. Olkusz mint, Iger O.96.1.d I think. Second trojak is Bydgoszcz mint, Iger B.96.2.a And the szostak (Malbork mint) is really spectacular. I am looking for a 1599 szostak with a later portrait of Sigismund. I will add a 4th mint for 1596 trojaks, Lublin. To my eye, the Lublin die maker(s) is less skilled than what we have seen from Riga, Vilnius, Bydgoszcz, Olkusz and Malbork and in the last few days. Great day for showing the variety of mints in Poland-Lithuania.   Edited by tdziemia

On @pepactonius coin...
I think the Sigismund portraits from the Malbork mint are the most attractive ones of the 1590s, made for just a few years: trojaks in 1592-94, and szostaks 1596 (giljan's and pepactonius' coins of today), and 1599-1601.
The mint closed from 1601, and as best I can tell, Polish coins were only made there one more time: some 1665 copper boratynki.

1595 Siege coin of Cambrai, one-sided coin of 20 patards to pay the French garrison defending the city XX --- P 9-----5 HENRICO PROTECTORE  indeed Spain (Philip II) was in war with France (Henri IV) and Cambrai was in the North border area between the two great powers of Europe at the same time Spain (Philip II) was in war with England (the armada was only 8 years ago) and the United provinces; we can understand better the triple alliance (see my jeton of 1596). Two more Siggy trojaks. During the "How Far Back" 4th round, I decided to put together a date/mint set of trojaks from Batory and Sigismund (at least one from each date 1580-1600, and at least one from each mint which operated under each ruler). I am missing a couple of dates, but getting close 1595 Wschowa (Fraustadt) mint. Again, a comparison of the workmanship to @pepactonius 1596 coin is interesting:   1595 Olkusz mint   Edited by tdziemia
