I found this in a roll last night and have not been able to find any examples of similar errors anywhere. Does anybody know if this is a true mint error?

To CCF! That isn't an error at all. This is Post Strike Damage (it happened after it left the U.S. Mint). It took a well placed hit, causing the metal to get pushed over and flattened. It's a damaged coin. Worth face value, since it's only damaged.

I don't see anything that would suggest anything other than a tiny scratch and some discoloration. But I can see why you would ask.

And...

Thanks for the feedback. I did think it odd that this error had gone unnoticed for 45 years.
Rest in Peace

Mintmarks are NEVER that far off. It is as stated, damage post mint, whether contact hits, staining, glue/foreign material that just is similar to a device of a coin.
