The second coin I was lucky enough to win from the Anaconda inventory (and the one I really wanted). Peace dollars are beyond tough to find attractively toned, and I really like the look of this piece. In an old thick NGC holder, what do you guys grade her? Image: 1924peace4.jpg98.62 KB

just curious...what makes you say that? It might however been the subject of artificial toning

You are right Hadleydog, BEYOND tough ! I have lots of Peace dollars turning brown/gold...and only two or three with more colorful toning. That is a beauty ! Super looking toning on this one. The fields look pretty clean on the obverse , I see a few marks almost hidden by the toning near the date and a few small one across the lower chin/face/hair area. The reverse is also pretty clean, with a few marks on the eagle and a few in the fields. Overall a very nice coin,I would give it a grade of MS-64*, maybe even 65 in-hand. Very well struck with nearly all hair details showing. Good eye for a great coin Hadleydog !

The rev strike looks especially uneven and weak..plus the surfaces look pitted and rough to me...but I bow to higher authority( Coin Community & NGC)and st and corrected.

I see an unusually colorful Peace dollar which I would call choice MS-65 based on the obverse. There appears to be significant strike weakness on the reverse, with UNITED and E PLU very faintly impressed. Although the colors on the reverse are nice, the brownish, spotty effect to the left of the eagle is less attractive. Between the weak strike and the spots, the reverse strikes me as MS-63; the nicer obverse may still bring it all the way back to MS-65. Since it's in an old NGC holder it won't have a star, but it probably deserves one. When you're ready Hadleydog, please share grade and price (if you're willing!). I remember offering around $1500 for a beautiful toned bust quarter from Anaconda. It was one of the "common" dates from the 1830's, graded AU-58 by either NGC or PCGS. At the time retail list price in AU-58 was only about $900, but my offer still wasn't high enough. Anaconda really expects premium prices for their toned treasures!

Jaobler, I purchased this coin through the Heritage sale for $160 with the juice (a ton less than he was asking). Very pleased, to say the least. Image: 1924peace.jpg53.94 KB

That's a beauty. How come my Peace dollars can't tone like that ? I just get that satinny dull silver color.
