1947-D Half Dollar Coated Coin—anything To Do With This Coin

Imag8r Valued Member United States 227 Posts	Posted 07/20/2018 9:35 pm I came across this coin that came from a money clip—it looks like gold plated 1947d half dollar—i suspect not worth much—any thoughts on what to do with coin—any way to take off the coating? Crazyb0 Rest in Peace 10197 Posts	Posted 07/20/2018 11:10 pm I would imagine the obverse has a glue or even a solder type adhering medium. This should come off with a soak in acetone for 24 hours if adhesive...solder has to be heat and wick removed. Now, depending on the plating method...electroplating takes electroplating to remove (YouTube studying...). If it was a paint, or a gold "wash", this may have come off with the acetone soak. But Any other method will really damage an already "damaged" coin worth melt only anyway. Edit: The reverse looks very much like a cheap gold wash, if acetone starts to take it off, use a paint stripper, your coin is trashed anyway, but will get it to silver only.
