Yeah the prices seem awfully low by today's' standards, but it sure is fun to look at them.

I was able to bid and win a few coins back then during the GSA sales. I got a few 78-CC's at 15$ along with the 82/83/84-CC's at 30$.

Putting things in perspective my car payment on my 69 Mustang was 77$ a month (I paid $3300 for it new!). Gas was about 30 cents a gallon and I made a whopping $1.80 an hour working about 65 hours a week.

Thanks for posting !

I have this same brochure. My Grandfather had tucked it inside his Red Book from that year.

How much squash could a Sasquatch squash if a Sasquatch would squash squash?

What were the Red Book values for the CC dollars on sale that year? Was the GSA offering a good deal? I'm guessing not, since the sales weren't that high.

Wow, according to the CPI calculator, $30 in June 1973 has the same buying power as $170.76 had in May of 2018!

Reading from my 1974 Red Book (could not locate the 73), I see:
1890-CC EF 18.50 UNC 70.00
1884-CC EF 27.50 UNC 35.00
1891-CC EF 20.00 UNC 70.00
1882-CC EF 20.00 UNC 35.00
1883-CC EF 20.00 UNC 35.00

Of course the Red Book has always been too high on prices so only two of them would not have been a great bargain. I also seem to remember the main reason my grandfather did not sending a bid was that there is no definite statement on the brochure as to what happens to your money if you do not win a bid. People who lived through the first Great Depression were very frugal people and very wary of how they spent their money.

What is interesting, unless I am mistaken, the coins from the $15 group that "do not meet the standards for uncirculated" came in a GSA holder without the word "uncirculated" on it. I ended up getting a few of these from this sale. Now, if one checks out graded GSA coins many (and I do mean many) of the high graded TPG coins actually are in these holders, so those that did the sorting probably didn't really know what to look for.

Here is an example that's on ebay for over $100,000. The sorter probably thought the toning put it into the $15 group.

Yes, toned coins were for the most part put into the "not uncirculated" catagory.
